So this Wednesday I had my first experience with a manicure and Shellac! The manicure was okay, I'm not really sure what I should have expected. She gave me an awkward light massage on my hands and arms afterward and it just seemed like a very abrupt ending.
Anyways, the Shellac experience was not all too bad! Shellac is much better for your nails than acrylics or gels and the upside is it's just your natural nail so it can be as long or as short as you'd like. As long as the manicurist can get under the edge of your nail, for me this meant getting a bit of polish on my skin, which she easily removed.
Something people may not like is sticking their hands under a UV lamp dryer for a total of 8 minutes. This manicurist in particular said some people had requested sun screen in the past, which to be honest I felt is pointless since your hands were only under the dryer for about thirty seconds at a time. This is because the Shellac is UV activated.
The Shellac seemed a bit stickier than regular nail polish but went on pretty easily. I would have appreciated another coat of black because on some of the nails I can see through the polish but overall the polish looks good and so far no chips or anything.
This stuff is supposed to stay on for TWO WEEKS, which seems awesome and just for everyone's sake I'm going to see how far I can push it's time limit and do weekly posts on it's stay power.
Overall I like the shellac very much! I think I will go to a different person this next time because I like my polish to go all the way over the nail. (I can see an obvious line between my skin and nail, not a close one either)
This manicure was $20 and I tipped $5, normally it would be $30 at this particular salon but the manicurist was running a special. Scope out prices in your area before you go ahead and get Shellac done. Also make sure when you choose a manicurist you are comfortable with them in their salon!
